Dudley Shukokai Karate Club - Josh Johnson Kata Competition
Dr Josh Johnson (F.E.K.O. National Coach) hosted his annual kata competition at Wolverhampton Grammar School. The competition was very well attended and competitors from as far afield as Milton Keynes and Somerset had travelled to the event.
The event had some very good exponents of kata there and Dudley Shukokai were struggling in some of the younger categories to get placed. However Adam Zuibrzynski finally produced our first in the under 18's kata, it was our first bronze medal of the day with a superb version of Seipei. Kyle Westwood and Steph Walker narrowly missed out on medals, in fact Kyle was only one point behind Adams score in the final. Aaron Poole also produced a lovely Seipei to take the silver medal in the under 14's event.
Onto teams and there were quite a few entries in the under sixteen team event. However our team of Liam Jackson, Aaron Haywood and Sam Ozwell produced an outstanding display of Annaku kata to secure themselves the gold medals, not to be out done, the over sixteen team of Sensei Mandie Read, Adam Zuibrzynski and Rhianna Davies secured themselves the silver medal with a very well performed Bassai Dai.
The Adult and child category saw Adam Zuibrzynski and Mandie Read perform the kata Na pa pu. However a mistake proved to be a costly one and the team had to settle for the bronze medal. Last but not least Sensei Mandie Read entered the veterans kata and managed to bet all the men in the category to win the gold medal.
Not a bad days work for the club there is still work to be done on the katas but the club is up there with the best of them. Dudley Shukokai Karate Club also came a very respectable third place in the club of the day award well done to everyone.
