FEKO Childrens Championships 13th June 2010
Dudley Shukokai Association travelled to the Harvey Hadden sports complex for the childrens FEKO championships. Team kata was up first and there was a win for us in the over 15 section and our B team also secured the bronze in the same event. Not to be outdone our under 15 team also took the gold medal and the B team a well deserved bronze.
Harvey Hawkes aged 7 set the standard for the day with an excellent win in the 7 and under individual kata event beating 25 others to take the title. There was good results in the 8-9 section with Lauren Billingham and Farren Brown winning silver and bronze respectively. Our junior 10-12 competitors didn’t disappoint either taking all 3 placing..... Sam Wooldridge, Rhys Williams and Aaron Budd. Our doubles teams were up next and this proved to be a very popular section with 18 teams taking part !! excellent results again with Georgia Burgess and Louis Brierley taking the silver medal and Lauren and Farren a very well deserved bronze seeing as they were some of the youngest in that catorgory.
Onto the fighting and everyone was performing well and were still on a high from such good kata results. All the teams performed well and there were silver medals for the under 10 teams and the girls under 15 section and the boys over 15 division. Some of our younger members performed well and there were medals galore for the Dudley squad. Ewan Burgess fought excellently all day to take the boys 8-9 section . Jessica Wall gained a well deserved bronze in the girls 10-12 section and Georgia Burgess took the title in the same event . Aaron Haywood continued the winning streak with a win in the boys 13-14 section. Maddison and Georgia Moore fought it out in the final of the girls 15-17 section with younger sister maddison taking the title. The girls also went on to take the girls team fighting event and Maddison also took the shobu ippon title.
The club has been training for this event now since Christmas and everyone has put in so much effort that the results speak for themselves. Many thanks also to the coaches who spent all day on their feet making sure these competitors performed to the best of their ability. Congratulations also go to Greg Haywood who passed his FEKO referees qualification and to Phil Billingham for passing his judges qualification. Well done to all !!!!
