Dudley Shukokai and Pensnett shotokan clubs set off for Carlow Ireland for the annual international championships that are held there. After arriving safely and everyone settled into their hotel it was off to do a final bit of training before the first day of competition. We then all had a meal together a bit of team talk before everyone had an early night. ready for the first day of competition.
SATURDAY
First up today was team kata for our under 10's and we had a brilliant start to the day with a win in that section. The team mates .... Lauren Billingham, Geogia Burgess and Ewan Burgess all then went on to win their individual kata events with fellow team mate Zack Haywood taking the bronze medal in the boys event.
All the kids then went on to have a great day in the fighting sections with lots more medals coming our way !!!
Our older fighters .... Hannah Knowles and Rebecca Barker had good success in the under 14 girls section taking the silver and bronze medals in that event.
Lauren Billingham having impressed the judges then went on to receive the female cadet fighter of the day !!!
The final event of the day was a tag team event ... Ireland against the rest of the world. This proved to be the highlight of the day with all four of our younger members taking part. Excellent fighting by all of our cadets made sure " The rest of the world team " came out on top !!!
SUNDAY
Parent and child kata events were up first and a good start to the day with a win for sensei Mandie and son Daniel. They then went on to take the silver medal in the team event with fellow team mate Adam against a very strong Austrian team. Daniel was unlucky in the individual kata event loosing out by point 1 once again to the Austrian so had to settle for the silver medal.
On to the fighting and there were wins for Maddison Moore and Scott Reynolds who were representing FEKO England and Daniel Read fought well all day to gain himself a place in the final against Ireland. Daniel continued his excellent form and beat the Irish competitor 6-1 in the final.
More excellent fighting continued throughout the day and the medals just kept coming.
Well done to all competitors from Dudley Pensnett and the FEKO team it was one of the best results we have had there in Ireland !!!!
