Shotokan Karate Association 6th Annual Open Championships 8th February 2009

Over 100 of us travelled to Milton Keynes for the tournament, Bad weather had threatened to cancel the whole event but our driver and Prospect coaches managed to get us there safe and sound.
The juniors got off to a flying start with wins in the pee wee division of kata for Louis Brierley and bronze for Jessica Wall and Sam Wooldridge.
Chris Plant secured a good bronze in the 10-14 black belt kata division with Liam Jackson narrowly missing out on the medals in the same category.
Instructor Mandie Read won gold in the ladies kata section and son Daniel secured the gold in the cadet 15-19 kata section. Mandie and Daniel went on to win parent and child senior kata section.
On to the kumite and Sam Wooldridge & Louis Brierley again were on form in the fighting session, with Sam gaining bronze and Louis the gold.
Maddison Moore and Zara Murad were then in the final of the girls10-14 kumite category, Maddison going on to win the event as Zara had to pull out due to an injury. By this time the snow outside was coming down thick and fast so the decision was taken to call it a day and head back to the Midlands. Before we left Louis Brierley was presented with the cadet of the day award which was very well deserved! A great day was had by all and many thanks again to Barry our driver for getting us home again safe and sound in the appalling weather.
